The reason to extract rather than send the whole file is usually discretion. A forty-page tenancy agreement contains your address, your bank details and your employer; the letting agent asking for "the signature page" needs one page of it. - Extracting keeps a chosen set of pages and discards the rest. Splitting divides the whole document up without throwing anything away. If you want three pages out of forty, extract.
- How do I select several pages at once?
- Click the first page, then hold Shift and click the last one to take everything between them. You can also type ranges directly, like 2-7, 12, 20-.
- Are the extracted pages uploaded anywhere?
- No. The document is read and rebuilt inside your browser, and the counter at the top of this page shows zero bytes of file data sent.
- Does extracting reduce quality?
- No. Pages are copied whole rather than re-rendered, so text stays selectable and images are untouched.
- Can I extract from a password-protected PDF?
- Not while it is locked. Remove the password first with Unlock PDF, then extract from the unlocked copy.
