Converting an image format changes how the picture is stored — usually to make it smaller, or because something will only accept a particular type. This free image converter handles PNG, JPG and WEBP in your browser, without uploading anything.
Choosing between them is simpler than it looks. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, which makes it right for logos, screenshots and anything with sharp edges or text. JPG is lossy and has no transparency, but is far smaller for photographs and is accepted absolutely everywhere. WEBP is the modern option: noticeably smaller than JPG at the same visible quality, supported by every current browser, but still refused by some older desktop software and print workflows.
The quality slider only applies to JPG and WEBP, because PNG has no quality setting to trade away. Converting a JPG to PNG will not restore detail that JPG compression already discarded — it will simply produce a larger file containing the same picture.
